Discerning
What Is Best
And this is my prayer: that your love
may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be
able to discern what is best. Philippians 1:9-10
I praise You, LORD, that everything I
need for life and godliness is found in Christ Jesus. Thank You for Your Word
and the deposit of the Holy Spirit in my heart that leads me into deeper truth
and understanding.
Today, Father, I confess my lack of
wisdom. So I ask that You give me Your wisdom. (Pause and bring before the Lord
specific situations you are facing. Ask Him for wisdom for each.)
For myself and for my church community,
I ask that we might be given Your wisdom—wisdom from heaven that is pure, peace
loving, considerate, submissive, filled with mercy and good fruit, impartial,
and sincere. I pray especially for my brothers and sisters in Christ who are in
places of authority in our faith community and ask that they be filled with
Your wisdom. (Pause and pray for pastors, ministry directors, elders, and deacons by
name.)
May we be those who accept Your Words
and store them up deep within us. Renew our minds by Your Word.
May we turn toward the deeper things of
Your Word, put them into practice, and be trained by what the Word says! May
our ability to discern between good and evil increase.
May we become a faith community that
truly hungers for You, Lord, and searches to know and understand You more and
more. May wisdom, understanding, and discernment increase among us.
Remove every obstacle that stands in
the way of the working of the Holy Spirit in our hearts. May we better
comprehend Your Word and gain wisdom and understanding. In Jesus’ mighty name,
put to death every deceptive philosophy, based on the principles of this world
that has taken root in our hearts!
May we, Your people at (name
of church fellowship), be encouraged in heart by the Holy Spirit and
unified in our love for You so that we might enter into greater understanding
of the mystery of Christ. This day I confess that in Him alone are hidden all
the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. In knowing You, LORD, we truly know what
is best. May our hearts truly be set on pilgrimage with You this day. Take us
deeper, LORD Take us deeper still.
In Your name alone, Jesus. Amen.
